A Silver metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Tenn, surmounting four bendlets Argent in bend the silhouette of a mosque Azure and a boot Vert. Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "AB INITIO" in Blue letters.
Orange and white are the Signal Corps colors. The four bendlets represent the four battle honors awarded the organization in World War II. The silhouette of the mosque (taken from the Fifth Army shoulder sleeve insignia) is for service in North Africa, and the green boot, representing Italy, is for service in that country.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 63d Signal Operations Battalion on 25 January 1952. It was redesignated for the 63d Signal Battalion on 12 October 1967.
